Microphone

I have an Acer Extensa with a HDA Intel sound card and a RealtekALC268 Codec?. A month ago I threw away Vista and loaded Hardy Heron. No Mic. I upgraded to Ibex a couple days ago; The upgrade fixed a wifi issue I'd been fighting with for weeks, but still no microphone. I'm using the newest version of Alsamixer. All the sliders move up and down except the "input source" slider.

I'm afraid with all the messing around I've been doing with the sound issue that I'm going to mess up other things, too. Any thoughts besides getting a usb mic?

I have an Intel HDA soundcard on my dell 630m. The mike you plug in to the 3.5mm jack plug socket works for me but no luck with USB audio apart from using a WinXP virtual machine when it's the other way around i.e usb works but plug-in mike doesn't!

Very odd.

What application are you wanting to use your microphone with?
