When the notebook is plugged in, Kubuntu 8.10 doesn't actually turn off the computer. Choosing "Shutdown -> Turn off computer" merely results in a restart.
When operating on the battery, Shutdown does just what it says.
How do I fix this behavior? I am configuring Kubuntu 8.10 for use by a technically inept user, so I can't have it doing unpredictable things like merely restarting when it's supposed to turn itself off.
