    nvidia 96.43.09

Installed and tested the 96.43.09 nvidia driver and was able to make it work
but had problems with firefox and quicken under wine with corruption.

A small but important number of pages were not readable on firefox and
nothing was readable with quicken. My graphics card is a MX 4000 and
will probably need to upgrade it so that I might be able to use the 177
driver. I will wait awhile to see if nidia fixs the driver to better work with
    kde 4 and intrepid.

    Re: nvidia 96.43.09

The new X.org version that is in 8.10 is known to have problems with the older Nvidia cards, as stated in the release notes. You probably will have better luck with the "nv" driver (but no 3D, of course).

      Re: nvidia 96.43.09

I had switched back to the nv driver. After I posted
I read that nvidia is aware of the problem and the
bug was known and missed. Another driver is going
to be released. I'll wait awhile see what happens.
3d support isn't very important to me but would like
to have it if possible. This hardware I'm using is old
enough that it won't make any sense to spend much
      to upgrade video.

I am using the MX400 and have unreadable characters on Firefox too, some become black block, since this is an old card I thought it is better supported in Linux, and I don't want to spend on a new card for a free system, and I don't need 3D as well, hope this can be fixed, I already wasted couple ATI.

          Re: nvidia 96.43.09

I've had no problems with the 'nv' driver. I followed
          this howto: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...46#post1838646

and it fixed my problem with wine and quicken using the 96.43.09 driver.
I still have some unreadable firefox pages. http://www.electronista.com/
seems to be the worst so far.

The only thing I need 3d for is google earth and flightgear and neither are
very important to me. I also installed the toggle composite plasmoid which
is helpful for viewing full screen video. I've had no show stoppers with
Intrepid but I've had a fair amount of problems to deal with. Certainly
          not trouble free.
