Trying to mount my cdrom0 drive to play a music CD

Losing patience with Amarok and the support for it, or lack thereof, I downloaded/installed Realplayer. To make a long story short, I am trying to play a CD now, but I get an error message reaading:

Could not mount cdrom0
mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0.
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

I followed the suggestion and found nothig of use. Your ideas and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Open the Konsole and run cat /etc/fstab and post the output here, please.

Huh. That looks perfect.

So, planning on being really helpful, I loaded an audio CD into my drive, and waited for the icon to show up in Dolphin. And waited ... and waited ... and waited ... nothing! Hmmmmmmmm.

I attempted to open it with alsaplayer, clicked the cdrom0 icon, and got:

mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

So, there's some bug affecting the mounting of removable media drives, all of a sudden. The bad news is, I didn't even know there was a problem. The good news is, you're not alone, Admiral.

OK, found a relevant bug post:

Unfortunately they show it as "bug fix released" back in May of this year.

It appears to affect Intel chipsets. Possibly they've managed a regression in 8.10 and picked up the bug again.

EDIT: So I rebooted my system and booted sidux, and then inserted the same audio CD. Now listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival. So it is NOT a cable problem.

To cut a long story short, music cds do not get mounted. You shove them in the drive, fire up amarok and press on play.

Wellllllllllll, not if your Intel chipset is giving you the error output that I listed above. :P

You don't have a CD to click on, and you can spend the rest of day in Amarok browsing your system, and you're not gonna find a CD anywhere.

In the 8.10 release notes there's an item about the tray not remaining open when you eject. I'm guessing there are other issues with the "wodim" driver, including this one that we're having today.

I use Amarok to play the radio streams (once in awhile).

So, there's an xmms2 package in the repos, right? You installed that? What isn't it doing?
