    Color Depth Issue Above 16bit

So, I switched to 8.10, which locked up my system. I edit the xorg.conf file to force 16bit color depth, and everything works great now. Anything above, and the system locks up. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

It's more of a nuisance than anything else, because it looks like hell. Everything is banded, especially where gradients are concerned.

I have a built in graphics card on an Intel motherboard. 82845G/GL

One thing unusual is that the KDE boot screen appears to be a higher color depth than the password screen and desktop. I think this may be where the bug is, because it locks on the KDE screen during boot if the depth is set to high initially. Maybe it's doubling the value on the KDE boot screen or something. It allows the drive icon to display fully, but as the others slowly fade in, it locks before they fully display. I tend to think the depth goes out of range as they fade in. 24bit locks it and freezes the screen, and 32bit won't display anything.
