the 3.5 " drives can not be seen in kubuntu 8.10 and kde 4.1.2 is there a way to fix this error

They won't be "seen" until you insert a diskette. So, are you saying, that even with a diskette inserted, the drive does not show up?Windows no longer obstructs my view.

It's amazing (to me) that "the developers" consider the floppy drive passe - which must be the case when the kernel is sans the module "by default." :PWindows no longer obstructs my view.

Snowhog is correct, as usual. The module is installed, until you upgrade to a new kernel. I guess we'll see whether the kernel devs are swamped by a public outcry for a return of a default floppy drive capability -- I'm not betting much on that one.

Which, unfortunately, I think is correct. To bad too. Follows the current trend of PC manufacturers to not include a floppy drive - everything is going to CD/DVD instead.
