    phonon/pulseaudio quirkiness

well I've got a pretty usable install of Ibex going, but the audio issues continue to confuse me. I finally got pretty much everything to work together by setting up pulseaudio as the first option in the sound configuration, but every once in awhile my digital (optical) out gets cut out. I've got the optical out to my main sound system, with an analog out to my monitors speakers, and setting everything to pulseaudio I can now be listening to Amarok, playing a flash video, or a video through kaffiene all at the same time. Sweet! my problem is sometimes when I open an app (most notably digikam), my digital out gets cut out and I only have audio through my analog (monitor) speakers. this also happens if I just go into the sound settings in the control center. so does anyone have an idiot proof way of setting up sound on Ibex? getting this far took quite a bit of fiddling, but having my digital out cut off randomly is pretty annoying. any ideas
