My wife's computer is running 8.04 Hardy Heron. She (or my daughter) did something to make the panel disappear last night. I dealt with this issue once long ago but forgot the magic words. Most threads concerning this problem are specific to Gnome or later Kubuntu releases. I tried running "xfce-panel" and "xfce4-panel" but neither would execute.

Re: Panel is lost, missing, disappeared, gone, Hardy Heron
No Good. Followed all instructions but when xfce4-panels command is given, it won't run. All other commands seem to execute. Is there some other way to enter the System Settings GUI so the panel can be configured? I have a foggy memory of that being the fix when this happened a couple of years ago.

Re: Panel is lost, missing, disappeared, gone, Hardy Heron
Okay, here's the fix:
Right-click on the desktop.
Choose "Run command".
Type "panel" in the dialog box and hit enter.
That brings up the panel configuration GUI.
The rest is easy.
I must have had some faint impression of this left over in a few brain neurons, because I just tried it as a hunch. Or maybe it's just common sense.
