How to mount Slackware IDE drive on my Kubuntu 8.04 SATA drive machine?

My main machine for the past few years has been Kubuntu 8.04 using SATA drives.

I have problems mounting an IDE drive on the machine because the IDE drive seems to "take over" the drive order, even though the SATA drives are listed in /etc/fstab properly.

Now I need to mount a specific Slackware IDE drive and copy the data over to the Kubuntu
machine. What do I have to do?

Do have the means to mount the IDE drive externally - in a caddy - that can be connected via USB?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
