KPDF doesn't work for newer adobe files (SOLVED)

I receive invoices and other documents from some of my wholesalers in PDF format. KPDF has been my default PDF viewer, but it doesn't work with the new Adobe file format that they are using. It opens the file actually, but no text is shown. I can open the PDF files with Kghostview or Konqueror but they don't have the handy search function that I use daily on long documents such as price lists (65 pages). This is a major problem for me. Does anyone have suggestions for a fix?

The PDF in question was made with FileMaker Pro 10.0v3, Adobe PDF Library 8.0

Is Okular able to render the file?

I'm back to using KDE 3.5 after being disappointed with 4.0, and it is my understanding (perhaps incorrect) that Okular is a 4.0 application. At any rate, it isn't available in the repositories that I have enabled for Hardy.

I take it the Adobe Reader 9.0 (proprietary) doesn't conform to your chosen values? Or is there a Qt issue with that version? Just wondering... I preferred to use the kde apps for PDFs but had to give up on them a while back for the same reasons...

I had problems also. Goes against the grain a little, but I have recently installed Adobe 9 and functions very well.. Installed easily with Adept once I had found repository and included in sources list. I think from memory it was from the hardy partner repository which seems to be supported by apt-cache report below

          ric5@debian3:~$ sudo apt-cache showpkg acroread
          [sudo] password for ric5:
          Package: acroread
          Versions:
          9.3-1 (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_hardy_partner_b inary-i386_Packages) (/var/lib/dpkg/status)
          Description Language:
          File: /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_hardy_partner_b inary-i386_Packages

That worked fine. I was looking for a Linux solution (preferred), but will be happy that your answer did the trick. Thank you!

Maybe caused by old poppler library (PDF rendering library used by KDE: http://poppler.freedesktop.org/ ). Hardy has 0.6.4, try upgrade to newer version from some PPA repository, eg. to stable 0.12.x version from https://launchpad.net/~pgquiles/+archive/ppa ("deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pgquiles/ppa/ubuntu hardy main"). It is very good repository with many backports to hardy, but still i recommend to upgrade only step by step due to some possible incompatibilities with some debs from third repositories.
