[Solved?] Bug? Quantum GIS 1.0.2 action causes problem with Konqueror

    Hi:

I've installed Quantum GIS 1.0.2 under Kubuntu 8.04.

I downloaded the Alaska example dataset and worked through some of the examples in the Quantum QIS (Version 1.0.0) User Guide.

I tried using the Actions Tab that is part of the Vector Properties Dialog (page 40 on) to post the following example from the User Guide.

    /usr/bin/konqueror http://www.google.com/search?q=%NAMES

I couldn't get this to work in QGIS, which isn't important. What is rather more important is that when I next called up Konqueror and clicked on ANY non-internal hyperlink (i.e., one for any URL on the Internet), then a dialogue box comes up that says:

    "Open with 'Quantum GIS' "

I'm given no choice to decline this option. If I accept, QGIS loads and I get the error message "The layer is not a valid layer and can not be added to the map".

I have since deleted the konqueror/Google-search action from the Actions Tab and rebooted my machine, but clicking on any non-internal URL from Konqueror still produces the behaviour just described.

(Incidentally, I created another QGIS action to do a Google search with Firefox, but that has had no effect on doing a Google search etc from Firefox.)

    Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

Konqueror problem solved; unclear if problem is a QGIS bug

I sorted out the problem with QGIS 1.0.2, Konqueror, and Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. The problem was actually more extensive than previously described: Clicking on an HTML file also called up QGIS.

The solution was changing the file associations for HTML. Here's how to solve the problem if it happens to you. Call up the KDE Control Center. You can do this in two ways: (1) From the command line, type “kcontrol” or (2) click on “K Menu” and then “System Settings.” Once you have accessed the Control Center, click on “KDE Components” and then “File Associations.” From the Known Types, click on “Text” and then “html.” If you have been having the problem I described, “Quantum GIS” will be at the top of the “Application Preference Order” list. To solve the problem, remove “Quantum GIS” from the list.

What remains unclear is whether QGIS 1.0.2 “hijacked” the HTML file association or not. (I have submitted a bug report at the QGIS website just in case.)
