    No.

There was a reason I instructed you to do the driver installation on a tty console, and not in a Konsole window. The reason is, it won't install while KDM is running. That is why you're having all these problems.

nvm ...i kinda fixed the tiny font problem...found the force font dpi in appearance under system settings and changed it to 96 dpi ...that fixed everything except my title bars....still trying to figure that out though

OK, let's try it again. First, are you really running version 7.10 of Kubuntu? If so, you probably could get far better results with the latest released version, which is 9.04. There has been a lot of work put into support of proprietary drivers. To check it, make a 9.10 Kubuntu Live CD, boot it, and then do KMenu > System > Hardware Drivers, and there is should recognize your 8400. If so, you can choose to install the current proprietary driver on it, and then you can enable Desktop Effects, which included the cube.

If pop open the Konsole (KMenu > System > Konsole), then enter this:

              Code:
              lsb_release -a
              and this

              Code:
              uname -a
They will tell you the version and the running kernel.

                tinker@tinker-laptop:~$ lsb_release -a
                No LSB modules are available.
                Distributor ID: Ubuntu
                Description: Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS

                  OK, you're running version 8.04.

Open the Konsole window again, and enter these:
                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get update
                  Code:
                  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
This will just update your system (it will still be 8.04). So, you have KDE 3.5.

Good. OK you have a couple of repos with no key -- that's why your upgrade to KDE4 didn't work. But, that's not a major problem.

OK, I have to leave for some hours, so I will point you to the best instruction I have for installing the Nvidia driver, and invite you to follow it carefully, step by step, and this time through it might work for you.

                    http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...4892#msg164892

Download the 185.18.36 driver from here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=122606

You want the 32-bit file. Good luck with it -- I'll check back when I can.

Re: 3D cube Desktop - Compiz, need help

ok i downloaded the file from the link you gave me and i was following the instructions in that other thread however step 6 :

                      6.
                      Code:

                      sudo cp /home/user/Desktop/NV{TAB to complete} .
didnt do anything when i hit 'tab' and when i hit enter it came back saying 'no such file or directory'

so im not sure what to do now...maybe it downloaded somewhere else or maybe there is something that is preventing me to do it?

thank you soooooo much for your help

                      thanks,
