SOLVED Lost Kubuntu Screen Icons and KMenu Tool Bar SOLVED

I did it this time. I installed Firefox Realplayer and although everything seemed to go well, it apparently did not. When I started my computer this morning, Kubuntu came up but I had a completely clean screen.

I can change from screen 1 to 2 with my mouse wheel and I can still use my keyboard hotkeys.

The KMenu bar is gone !!! How do I fix this? or How do I activate a previous save-point from before the Realplayer plugin load?

Are you using KDE 3 or 4? If you are using KDE 4 then you should be able add all the desktop icons again, because they are essentially only widgets (unlock widgets > add widgets). In KDE 3 I don't know...

Thank you for the quick reply. Since the post, I've upgraded to Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.0. Wow, what a difference. I have a lot to get used to again. Thanks.

Welcome aboard!

The current version of KDE in jaunty should be 4.2.2 and some recommend updating to 4.2.4 (through ppa); I have 4.2.4 and it is running fine.

There are issues with the network manager in KDE 4; I'm using WICD instead.
