    browsers crashing

I am running kubuntu 8.04 and have installed seamonkey and firefox. They are both quite unstable. Either of them will crash at a random point quite frequently or when the window is being moved and give a segmentation fault. Once a segmentation fault is is made that application always immediately continues to give one immediately an attempt is made to restart that application. Only rebooting the machine fixes it. Once one of them has given a fault the other runs for a while until it presumably independently also gives a segmentation fault. I have always found kubuntu 5 and 6 very stable. I am tempted to go back to 6.10 unless some light can be shed on this. I have removed and reinstalled both applications but the behaviour is the same.

Firefox has been very stable for me (and most people I think), do you see any pattern? Is this possibly a plugin, like flash ? Do you really mean Kubuntu 8.04? Or 9.04? If you are on 8.04, you may want to try the latest (9.04) on a live cd.

OTOH, if you are on 9.04, you may want to try with firefox-3.5 (it installs side by side). Another suggestion is to try disabling desktop effects, assuming they are enabled ...
