version upgrade mistake

my friend clicked this by mistake and didn't realize what she did. Is there a safe way for her to return back to Hardy?

No, you have to install clean.

Backup the user's home directory, (unless it is on it's own partition) so all the data and settings can be restored.

If the /home directory wasn't on it's own partition, a clean install would be a good time to do this, which makes reinstalling a bit easier.

I feared this might be the case. It's a bugger, but she only has a year before retirement, so I think she has what she has for the time being.

I just learned from local HumLUG that it IS possible to remove the "upgrade version" button. Too late for her though.

Out of curiousity, which are the issues for her? Not that there aren't plenty with Jaunty just wondering which ones, because some of them can be mostly mitigated. For example, if it's mainly just a preference for KDE3 rather than KDE4 (which I personally understand), then it's a rather simple matter to add KDE3 for her to use if she likes. Here's the repository's site, and the Kubuntu wiki page (it was mentioned on the main Kubuntu.org page a bit before Jaunty's release too).

The issue is that she is a workerbee not a techy type person. The "upgrade" will issue hundreds of updates and they will possibly bork parts or all of her system. The system is an "xp sandbox" so she can run quickbooks under vmware. The update will also break vmware too. in all, it's just needless wasted time and effort. She needed something stable with security updates and I felt that the Hardy version following the dapper version would be, will, stable. At this point, there seems to be far too much "jonesing" going on with this "latest greatest" software.

Again, it's just an unforeseen bugger.
