Linux Print Driver Causes Paper Jams

It doesn't make sense to me. I thought when an OS (Linux, Windoze, etc) sends a print job to a Postscript printer, the printer its self takes care of the paper handling. Why then would paper handling work in one OS and not in another?

I have a new HP Postscript inkjet printer that works great with Windoze XP, but can't pull in any paper or tears up 80% of the paper it can pull in under Kubuntu. When the paper is pulled in correctly, the finished print job is great; good text, good color, everything.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
