OpenOffice3 works confusingly in Kubuntu Hardy

I downloaded OO3 from Open Office.org after deleting it from Kubuntu Hardy. It works but there are some glitches that I don't understand.
1) It didn't show up under KMenu>Office.
2) The icon is on my Desktop and it didn't have the regular icon, It says "soffice"
3) If I click on a document or right click and say open with soffice it won't work. However if I open soffice and click on "Open a document" and then browse to the item I can open it.

Can anybody help me get this straightened out?
