    Ekiga not listed in applications

    Hi,

I install Ekiga from the repositories but when I checked applications it did not show up. Did a search and that came up with nothing.

How do I find out where it went?

    Thanks

(Most application BUT NOT ALL will appear in the menu. Sometimes you just have to edit and add it manually...)

    Open a terminal and input:
    Ekiga
    Does it open?

I checked applications it did not show up.
    How/Where did you check applications?

Did a search and that came up with nothing.
How did you search> In a terminal input:
    whereis ekiga
Are you using Synaptic? Does the Synaptic box for Ekiga show green?

Yes I did open a terminal but it did not open.

I checked via applications in application launcher and checking under internet.

I used Synaptic and it does show green.

        Did you try the command:
        whereis ekiga
        Try reinstalling.

Does it have to be Ekiga? There are other VOIP apps - Gizmo5, Kphone, Twinkle, Skype, Wengophone etc

          Did you try the command:
          whereis ekiga
I didn't know that command, tried it and got this:

          ekiga: /usr/bin/ekiga /usr/share/man/man1/ekiga.1.gz

I checked the permissions and found that it was under root.

          Try reinstalling.

Yes, I tried that with the result.

Re: Ekiga not listed in applications

If you look at Kubuntuguide it talks about installing the standalone version - ekiga-gtkonly - at http://kubuntuguide.org/Intrepid#Ekiga. It still doesn't appear in the menu, but does start from Alt+f2 or the terminal. Do a search for Ekiga in Synaptic. Remove Ekiga (ordinary) and install Ekiga-gtkonly. Reboot. You will have to edit the menu to put it there.

            "Ekiga

Formerly known as Gnomemeeting, Ekiga is a SIP compliant fully functional open source integrated VOIP and videoconferencing program. The repositories have version 2, which only supports v4l (video for linux) and not v4l2. Many new webcams are supported under v4l2 and not v4l, so they will not work with Ekiga v.2. Version 3, which supports v4l2, is available as source code from the website. For version 2:

            sudo apt-get install ekiga-gtkonly

            Run:

            ekiga-gtkonly"
