Kaudiocreator can't mv file because File name to long

I have a problem with a CD I'm ripping. The file name is very long and Kaudiocreator breaks with this message:

mv '/tmp/kde-jon/3dJVoa.wav' '/home/jon/wav/Bach St. Matthew Passion (CD 1)/ 04 - St. Matthew Passion, BWV 244: Teil I. "Da versammelten sich die Hohenpriester" (Evangelista) - Chori "Ja nicht auf das Fest" - "Da nun Jesus war zu Bethanien" (Evangelista) - Chorus "Wozu dienet dieser Unrat" - "Da das Jesus merkete" (Evangelista,Jesus).wav'

mv: accessing `/home/jon/wav/Bach St. Matthew Passion (CD 1)/ 04 - St. Matthew Passion, BWV 244: Teil I. "Da versammelten sich die Hohenpriester" (Evangelista) - Chori "Ja nicht auf das Fest" - "Da nun Jesus war zu Bethanien" (Evangelista) - Chorus "Wozu dienet dieser Unrat" - "Da das Jesus merkete" (Evangelista,Jesus).wav': File name too long

While I can't argue that the name is indeed long, what annoys be is that by the time it show this message, it has already removed the file '/tmp/kde-jon/3dJVoa.wav. This is idiocy! If it left it there, I could do the mv myself with a shorter name. I can find no option to tell it to leave the temporary wav file in place.

I have looked at Kaudiocreator options and windows and I find no way to rename the file before I run the rip. It seems once the CDDB info is in, there's no way to change the name of one track.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention another weird thing, but maybe this should be a separate topic.

Sometimes, the length of a file displayed by amarok is all wrong, either too long or too short. If you play the file, tho, it's fine. It either goes on after the display says there is nothing left or stops before what the display thinks is the end.

Is this a lame problem or an amarok one? What to do? Thanks again.

I would say that the reason it can't move it from that temp folder because of all the spaces and special characters.
Lame hasn't cared a bit about anything that I have thrown at it, but then I haven't tried anything with a file name that long.
You could rip it with K3B as this lets you rename files prior to ripping and also set tag information, even after cddb retrieval.
It will happily rip straight to your target directory too.

There is often silence at the beginning or end of a track that will get read into the track length.
This may be on the original track, or your ripping tool may insert some silence.
Take a look in your application and mp3 conversion settings to see if this is what is happening.

Can you access the file on the command line or can you rename it with dolphin?

No, because by the time Kaudiocreator announces the problem is has, as it tells me, already removed the file. I wish it would keep it, then I could rename it and run lame by hand.

I will try K3b, but it's kinduv annoying to have to change programs for a few files.

I can't help it Bach gave long names to his movements....

fwiw you can change track data after you collected it from cddb.

And don't worry, St. Matthew's Passion is worth the extra hassle

I tried to do that and can't figure out how. I can change the CD data, but can't find any way of changing data on one track. Can you tell me how to do it?

Yes, the St Matthew is great!

Unfortunately I cannot install kaudiocreator at the mo (am on Archlinux KDE4.2 - they ain't got it and I'm ripping with Soundkonverter), but if my memory serves me well you select the track in question, go into the menu and select edit information.

No show? If not, I'm talking rubbish and you should go with idiot's suggestion and find yourself another programme. Personally I like soundkonverter 'cos it integrates seemlessly into amarok.

I installed soundKonverter and used it for the problem CD. The other 2 were all right. There were several tracks on CD1 which failed and not all were because of long file names. I'm still trying to figure out why. If/when I do, I'll post it.

I don't understand the bit about Soundcreator's having "an Amarok script that allows you to easily transcode files when transfering to your media device", tho.

In the meantime, thanks to both for your help.
