    Reinstall question getting everything back easy

    I'm going to reinstall Hardy because of this problem
    http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3099700.0
    and I'd like to get the system back the way I had it without trying to remember every package I added after I installed 6 months back.

    So I ran dpkg -l >installed.txt then I ran a yabasic script to pair the file down to what's installed and add commas then I added
    sudo aptitude install -s to the start and made it executable thus

    Code:
    #!/bin/bash

    sudo aptitude install -s 3dchess, aatv, abraca, acidrip, acl, aconnectgui, acpi, acpi-support, acpid, adduser, adept, adept-batch, adept-common,

      Yep that's exactly what I need except i cleared my/var/cach/apt and I guess aptoncd relies on the deb files being there...........can I tell synaptic ot aptitude to redownload all installed packages?
      Thanks

          yeah dang it I thought I needed the space......I'm trying to have synaptic redownload the files now. If That works.

          I wonder why dpkg -l didn't produce a usable result?
          Thanks

            Re: Reinstall question getting everything back easy

            OK I got synaptic to redownload all the packages [1.9 gb] but from what I've read on apt on cd all it does is put everything back in /var/cache/apt/archives it doesn't run anything to reinstall them. So do I cd /var/cache/apt/archives then sudo dpkg -i *.deb to put everything back? Or is there a better way?
            Thanks

              I reinstalled and ran sudo dpkg -i *.deb in a folder I copied all 2100 .debs to and it worked.
              Thanks
