Thank goodness for my Iphone that is allowing me to post this. During a slow afternoon today I tinkered with my KDE4 desktop thinking I was cleaning up and I cleaned Kwin from my system. Now I have no desktop. Is there a way I can reinstall and preserve the files in my home folder or will I have to do a clean install? Any other way to preserve my files? I am away from home and this is my laptop. I do ha e access to my son in law's desktop and a CD burner. Suggestions?

Re: Tinkering killed my desktop
All startup tests seem ok. Last message Is "Not starting K Display Manager (kdm-kde4); it is not the default display manager. ". Stops at command line login prompt. I could see OKs for all my installed stuff such as the Virtualbox kernel.
Second attempt seems normal showing the Kubuntu gears and progress bar but ends at command line login prompt.
