Compiz Fusion unable to increase number of desktops

I can play with settings in KDE and set the number of desktops to four. I can play with compiz settings and make it look like i have four desktops in the panel at the bottom. However, the actual option to increase desktop number is grayed, and therefore frozen at one. I really would like four virtual desktops. Mostly to have a 3 dimensional cube when switching. If anyone can tell me how to do this, that would be nothing short of amazing.

That might be a problem. The basic drill is to set the number of desktops in KDE 3.5 to 1. Then open Compiz Config Settings Manager, and on the General icon, navigate to the Desktop Size tab and set the horizontal virtual size to 4.

If you don't have KMenu>System>Settings>Compiz Config Settings Manager, that's a problem. Maybe you can fix it with
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
    .
