    Problems playing videos

    Hi.

I am having issues playing videos of TV shows I download. They are usually XVID, AVI files. The audio plays fine, but the video is just a blue screen.

I have the restricted exrtras codecs installed, but I am still not getting video. Kaffeine, VLC, or XINE player, all do the same thing.

    What can I do?

    Thanks.

Are you able to play commercial DVDs at all?

Just tried a DVD, and it was the same thing. Audio plays fine, and video shows a blue screen.

Then follow my HOWTO: Get commercial DVD playback in Kaffeine and report back.

Still only audio with blue screen video.

funny thing is, if I use tovid to make a DVD, they play just fine in my stand alone DVD player, and my PS3.

So it is not like my system thinks there is no video there.

What are your PC specs, including video card/chip?

Hold the phone! You've got tovid working? Tell more -- how did you do it?

I don't do anything special. Launch the program, add a menu, add the videos I want in the menu, start encoding. Encoding with take some time. Usually a couple hours. Then, burn to disc. tovid handles the whole thing start to finish.

And tovid is in the standard repositories?

See tovid | Linux App Finder Scroll down a bit and you'll see the section Available deb Repositories (how-to add a respository)

Ubuntu Hardy and Intrepid, 32- and 64-bit .deb packages.

Still no ideas why I can't get video playback? Only audio?
