Kooka seems to have no main opening screen

Some time ago I tried scanning a photograph and don't know that happened. Kooka will not open in it's main screen where you can change the scanning parameters. I've un-installed the program and purged the program many times with Adept before a new installation, but I still don't get the opening screen - how do I get there? Any suggestions

Do you get a message to first choose a device (e.g. either your scanner or a video camera)?

Try launching kooka from a console and see what messages are reported.

No error messages when I open Kooka in Konsole. Right now I don't have a scanner attached, but I can cure that quickly. Will borrow one in a few minutes
