[SOLVED] Run command (Alt+F2) doesn't work when started from FF & TB

    Hi all,

I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 on my laptop. Recently I got the following problem:

When I try to type in a command in the Run Command dialog (opened by Alt + F2) nothing happens. I.e. the dialog appears, but I cannot enter letters by typing on the keyboard. Ctrl+V to copy something is also not working. Only when I copy something with the menu opened by the right mouse button, it works.
Surprisingly this behavior only appears when Firefox (3.0.3) or Thunderbird (2.0.0.17) had the focus beforehand. As you can guess this is very annoying, when I surf the net and then want to start an application.

I installed Scim for Japanese input support recently, but I have no idea if or how this could be related.

If anybody has an idea what I could do to pin the problem down, I would be happy.

    Thanks,
    Cornelius

Strange, I've got an old HP laptop and I'm having almost the same problem not with the run command dialog, but with the run command applet. The other differences are that it doesn't matter what previously had the focus, and I just installed Kubuntu onto an Ubuntu (Hardy) system.

When I click in the text field, the cursor appears just long enough to blink once. Can't type a thing into it.

    > The darned run-command applet is a big reason I use Kubuntu, I'm used to it and I like it a lot. Or at least, I like it when it works...it makes a lousy panel decoration.

I figured out how to solve this issue:

      - Right Click on the title bar of an arbitrary window and select "Configure Window Behavior..."
      - Go to the "Advanced" tab
      - Change "Focus stealing prevention level" to "None"
      - Restart the X Server (don't know if this is really necessary, but for me it was)

After this I can use "Alt+F2" out of Thunderbird and Firefox, too. Hope this helps someone else.

      Cheers,
