    Re: howto install openoffice3

    Fintan
I tried that as well on my Intrebid beta and got this:
    Error: confilcts with openoffice-or-core
I presume it doesn't like the ooo2.4 install.
But I will keep that around for now.
It definitely is ooo2.4, as when I installed ooo3 I had no previous version installed (I removed it). Just to check this I selected ooo2.4 in adept and it wants to remove the debian menu in ooo3.

I must say that ooo3 id performing very well indeed.

          Re: howto install openoffice3

What I was trying to say is that the error message is not relevant to the behaviour of openoffice3. But having thought about it a little more you could either ask at:

          http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/

          or:

          http://www.oooforum.org/

There could be some registration file gone wrong, some annoying loop.

Another alternative would be to simply remove openoffice3 by typing:

          Code:
          sudo rm -r /opt/openoffice3.org
and go through the install process again.

          Let us know either way

            Re: howto install openoffice3

Yeah, turns out that message is displayed when starting Open Office 2.4 as well, and it works fine...I'll give an update on the install status later once I find time to reinstall it.

EDIT: The Re-install did not work. Here is the installation process in the terminal: Is anything missing/not right?

              Re: howto install openoffice3

I didn't notice any error messages in what you posted. Does that mean that ooo3 is working fine but you still get those annoying registering messages?

If so, I found this in the README in /opt/openoffice.org3

              Problems During Program Startup
If you experience OpenOffice.org startup problems (most notably while using Gnome) please 'unset' the SESSION_MANAGER environment variable inside the shell you use to start OpenOffice.org. This can be done by adding the line "unset SESSION_MANAGER" to the beginning of the soffice shell script found in the "[office folder]/program" directory.
              .
              .
              .
              Registration
Please take a little time to complete the minimal Product Registration process when you install the software. While registration is optional, we encourage you to register, since the information enables the community to make an even better software suite and address user needs directly. Through its Privacy Policy, the OpenOffice.org Community takes every precaution to safeguard your personal data. If you missed the registration at installation, you can return and register at any time at by choosing "Help > Registration" from the main menu.

I'm also having the same problem with the registration wizard opening and when you press finish nothing happens. From the terminal i get the following error:

                tom@tomlap :~$ /opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin
[Java framework]sunjavaplugin.so could not load Java runtime library:

Not sure what the segmentation fault means.BTW this is on 8.10

                  Re: howto install openoffice3

What's even more strange, is even when I'm in the exact folder, typing "soffice" in the terminal will always start Open Office 2.4. I get a Java error, too, but 2.4 still comes up...

Also, adding the "unset SESSION_MANAGER" to the shell script did not work. I'm looking for a solution on other forums, but I have yet to see one...

Good stuff, I added the repos to this howto.

BTW, my ooo3 just started doing the register bug For now I'll just observe how it behaves...

                          Re: howto install openoffice3

The links to the repositories above have crashed my Adept manager! Maybe I didn't copy something right...Synaptic is down as well...

Adept won't even let me in to fix the problem. It keeps saying:

The APT Database could not be opened! This may be caused by incorrect APT configuration or some similar problem. Try running apt-setup and apt-get update in terminal and see if it helps to resolve the problem.

The two solutions it gives you get the annoying "command not found" error...

But, I found the script with the repositories on them, and corrected from there...The problem has been fixed; I'll edit the post for the verdict...

                            To fix Adept errors:
                            Open a console and type:
                            Code:
                            sudo dpkg --configure -a
                            then continue with
                            Code:
                            sudo apt-get clean
                            Code:
                            sudo apt-get update
Check /etc/apt/sources.lst. You should have these lines in there:
if they are not there edit with alt+F2 and:
                            Code:
                            kdesudo kate
                            ->password

bythw the above repos are for Intrepid!!

                            Hope that helps

Yeah, I noticed they were for intrepid. Thought I'd try them anyways...

And I had fixed the error already by editing the etc/apt/sources.list by the time you posted. Thanks for the help anyway! I'm still looking for other cases of the Open Office 3 registration bug on other forums, but I have yet to find anything...
