Open Firefox Downloads - Thunderbird as Default Mail Client.

Am not sure when this problem started. Is it after I've upgraded to Kubuntu 8.04 or FF3.

    For Firefox:
Now suppose I download any file through FF3.

When I want to open it, it asks me what application would I want to open it with.
Even if I choose "Open containing folder" it asks the same question.
Am not even sure how to locate the programs it's suppose to open the file or the folder.
I know the file is associate to which application, but what exactly should I search for?
Ex: "Open containing folder" Should be Dolphin, but where to locate it?
Some media files that I've tried to associate with VLC didn't succeed through Firefox, I think I've chosen the shortcut or something.

Although am not sure that what am suggesting here is correct, there should be another solution instead of me looking for the file associates manually. It should know than from the OS.

    For Thunderbird:

Another issue is, when I click on an email link, it says, the link needs to be open in an application. By default Yahoo is listed since Mozilla is working with Yahoo. Also Included Gmail. How can I add Thunderbird?

I've tried to click choose & navigate to "/home/xirex/.mozilla-thunderbird/" but cannot do that.

    Many thanks in advanced.

Maybe I can answer one question. I had the same problem with Yahoo and Thunderbird after upgrading. I've a Dutch system, so maybe some labels are a bit different for you.
    In Firefox: Settings -> Applications
There's a list with filetypes and in there is mailto. I could choose for Thunderbird there.
Hope it works for you too.

      Thanks Goeroeboeroe,

Actually, Here it is Edit -> Preferences -> Applications.

Now I've seen that some of the file types are associated with a default program to open them, but in Firefox all are chosen to "Always ask".

I could change only few (Which has an option for a program to open). But still, don't know how to choose for others.

      Thanks again.

Re: Open Firefox Downloads - Thunderbird as Default Mail Client.

I use dolphin as file manager and I've set the app to dolphin for the "file" type
This way it opens Dolphin when I ask it to open the directory, which is exactly what I want. This might work for you, I suspect that is what you are looking for. In my opinion it should be like that on install, but I suppose the many different possible configs makes it almost impossible....

        Mine looks like this:

I now use KGet, Firefox's downloading never really worked well for me, hope that gets fixed some day.

          Thnx !sense,

Unfortunately, in my list, there is no "file" in the content type.

As for "mailto" I've clicked on action -> use other... -> /usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop

When I click open, nothing happens!
It goes back to the Application settings & it's stuck on Always ask

          Firefox problem?
