Root Konqueror - No Outside Activity

Need some help here guys with Kubuntu 8.04.1 with KDE 3.5.10.

When I open Konqueror as root none of the usual information windows open. Konqueror works fine as a file manager but nothing else.

When I do some maintenance on my / backups such as deleting old files, the usual copying/moving/deleting activity window is a no show. The files are being acted upon because the hard drive is very active and when the hard drive stops, the files are gone.

Also when I try to "Open terminal here", nothing opens.
When I chose a folder and "Open with . . . FileLight", again nothing opens.
When I click an executable file, the icon's feedback expands as normal but no executable runs.

It seems that I have lost (or never had?) root Konqueror's links to the outside world.

Users Konqueror works fine.

And please, no lectures about root use. There are very specific uses for root. Things that only root can do.

Do you think there are no good reasons for such lectures? You know, with great power comes great responsibilty...

Anyway, I don't think you can use Konqueror for such things. What do you want to do? Perhaps I can give you a tip.

I would have assumed that my posted reasons would have prevented your comment but I guess that I was wrong.

What I want to do is any of the above. I want to "Open terminal here", etc.

Something is wrong with my Konqueror but I may have inadvertently come on the answer.

I added a couple of items to my user "Actions" menu. One is "Open as Root". I tried it and it opened a root Konqueror. I also tried to "Open with . . . Filelight" and guess what it opened.

I will cross reference how the menu item opens Konqueror with my opening source. I will probably get the solution.
