Does anybody know a good media player

hi,
right now i am using vlc media player, but my problem is that it is hard to open a dvd.
Here is what i am doing:
I put the cd/dvd in, and wait a moment. than i open vlc, click on open disc and click on ok. but after that the vlc media player closes down or doesn't do anything! am i doing something wrong? i am using kde 4 hardy heron.
please help (i can't watch my rambo 4 dvd)

Have you installed the thing which enables you to play commercial DVDs?

Install kubuntu-restricted-extras and libdvdcss2 from the Medibuntu repository - see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu for how to install it.
