    Virtualbox question

To install/add VirtualBox 2.02 to Kubuntu (so Kubuntu OS can be the host), do you add the following line (according to the Kubuntu distribution) to the /etc/apt/sources.list:

    deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian hardy non-free

    ** OR **

Can you just download the Ubuntu VirtualBox 2.0.2 package?:

    Ubuntu 8.04 ("Hardy Heron") i386 | AMD64

    URL: http://dlc.sun.com/virtualbox/vboxdownload.html#source

    http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Which method is better or do you obtain the same thing either way?

    I'm just curious...

I checked Synaptic to see which package is available in the current/default repository and it's VirtualBox version 1.5.

Final question here: if I wanted a list of all possible repositories I could add to my /etc/apt/sources.list, where can I find that?

    Re: Virtualbox question

    Hi,

I use the sun version since it is usually updated quicker then the repo's plus it has worked better for me (hardy amd64 as host). Installation is painless and I have not run into any issue's with it. That's my two cents.
As for a complete list of repo's, there use to be a site called "source-o-matic" but I don't think it's around any more. I spent a lot of time gathering entries because of dependencies but I don't think the list is really complete since everyone has different needs.

So, just choose the Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) platform (from the Sun site), right?

P.S. Thanks, for answering the last question. I acknowledge such a list or collection list of repos wouldn't always be right up to date but I sometimes notice I'm missing one I might want (such as the 'non-free' one).

        Re: Virtualbox question

        Hi,

Yep that's all I do. I haven't had any issue's with it and all the migrating of older vm's went without a hitch. The only thing I can remember happening is that when I upgrade the kernel, I have to rerun the install command for it and that has never been an issue either.
