Lirc and irkick often did not work and I thought the reason was the ever changing event number, so I ameded the hardware.conf with DEVICE="/dev/input/irremote"
More often than not it still does not work. Right-clicking on the irkick icon + configure usually shows a blank where the lirc.conf actions should show. If I do the following it will work:
1. Quit irkick
2. Run : sudo /usr/sbin/lircd -H dev/input -d /dev/input/irremote -n
3. Start irkick (the lirc.conf actions will show)
Would like this to happen automatically at boot time!
