    Gtk settings in KControl?

I seem to have lost the ability to control the appearance of Gtk applications within KDE. When I launch System Settings -> Appearance, I'm used to seeing an icon titled, "Gtk Fonts and Appearance" or something like that. Now that icon is gone, and my Gtk apps -- e.g. Firefox -- all look bad.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I seem to have the same problem. While my Firefox look and feel is ugly, I'd really like to access these settings...

Have you got the 'gtk-qt-engine' package installed?

I had it installed, purged it and reinstalled it, but still, the GTK settings are not present in KControl.

I had the same problem, which seemed to me to start Saturday/Sunday with 4.1.0. and then affected the 3.5.10 install.

I thought that by deleting the .kde4 directory the problem might be solved, but unfortunately it wasn't, so i opted for what seemed to me to be the obvious cure.

It was nothing to do with 3.5.10, everything is back to normal, today.

The ball seems to be in KDE4's court.

              Re-installed.

                Re-installed.
                Code:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall gtk-qt-engine kcontrol
                didn't solve anything

I apologise for being obtuse my favourite cure for problems is to re-install the system.

It certainly cures the GTK problem.

It seems to be a problem with KDE 4.1.

                    No problem at all.

Strangely, I don't use KDE 4.1 but 3.5.9. I'll try to upgrade to KDE 3.5.10, maybe that solves the problem...

Hmm, upgrading KDE to 3.5.10 didn't help.

I use Keramic style, which gives a nice curved effect to the menu-bars, and tabs in Firefox, whatever it was that changed on Saturday/Sunday made everything flat and gave the menu-bar a rough, sandpapered appearance, which i couldn't remove.

It looked awful - in my opinion.

Is this the same as what happened to you?

Your story sounds very familiar, although I use the Klearlooks style, not the Keramic style. But that shouldn't matter. Yes, Firefox' windows are having rough edges, no eye-candy at all, just uglyness (but that is a matter of taste, I'm afraid...). It also happens with other GTK-based applications, such as Synaptic, Evolution or the GIMP.

I tried deleting the .kde4 directory, re-booting into 3.5.10, then fiddling with the style, and everything else which i thought just might have had an effect, but with no joy.

So i thought bugrit and stuffed the KDE 8.04 disc in the drive....

Well, I'd prefer a less destructive option to fix things... I might create a new account, log into it once, then log out and copy it's .themes directory as well as it's .gtk* files. Do you think that would help?
