adept updater misguiding ???

    adept updater misguiding ???

    I just installed kubuntu 8.04 and without any updates downloaded kde 4.1 desktop and the adept updater
    says I have hundreds of updates to do. I am wondering if it is asking me to update packages for kde 3.5
    ( the older kde ) which I won't be using anyway. How do I figure this out ? I don't want to update any of the
    older kde packages. I just want to stay current with kde 4.1. Any help is appreciated.

    Welcome to the party

    Updating your (old) kde3.5 won't hurt any thing, Besides since HH was released there have been a few security and kernel updates that certainly won't hurt.

    Even though I use kde4.1 98% of the time I do find instances when I fall back to kde3.5.9/10.

    So why not enjoy the luxury of having / using both and keeping them updated.

    Of course you can tell adept not to upgrade kde3 stuff but since many apps have not been ported to kde4 yet that might be a bit risky.

    Edit: bthw adept is not misguiding. Your main system is still kde3.5.9/10. kde4 is a guest of sorts. That will stay that way until intrepid is released.

    So if you want a kde4.1 system alone get Intrepid alpha 5 (writing from it now) and have fun with going from alpha to beta to release

              downloaded it, verified the checksum and burned using k3b.
              A check on the CD during boot says 60 files are corrupt.
              Does that mean something went wrong during the write
              or the files itself were...(i wouldn't think so) ? Just to confirm.

                Try burning at less than 8x. Ubuntu CD's don't like fast burns.
