    (Solved) Ntfs read write permission

    Hi all,

    I'm busy installing Kubuntu 8.04 on a clients machine, and for some very good reason the ntfs read write does not work even when I install the read write app (ntfs-config)
    Can someone please advise me on this?

    Do you have KDE 3.5.9 (or 10) or kde4? In kde4, it should work automatically.

    Can you list the contents of your fstab file (located in the /etc directory). I guess the experts on this forum would want the information.

      The fstab contents is as follow:
      # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
      #
      # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
      proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
      # /dev/sda1
      UUID=bef8dd52-8960-448a-a978-6c02eb81b083 / ext3 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
      # /dev/sda3
      UUID=dc47e1a2-12f4-438c-8c65-ce696e20a1ed /backup ext3 relatime 0 2
      # /dev/sda2
      UUID=ab33d935-3dda-48df-b1b5-cdca1d80899c /home ext3 relatime 0 2
      # /dev/sda4
      UUID=09304548-c4ab-47eb-8b55-e1c859f93ade none swap sw 0 0
      /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0

      I'm installing kde3.?.?
      Dont know how to determine that, I know I have downloaded the kubuntu installation Wednesday.

        Re: Ntfs read write permission

        I am pretty sure that the installer only installs KDE 3.5.9, which will be upgraded to 3.5.10, if you wish to see if KDE4 is installed, start Adept updater, and put kde4 in the search box.

        Incidentally, i've just checked, and ntfs-config isn't installed on this machine, but ntfs-3g and libntfs-3g23 are, and i've never had any problems with ntfs partitions.

        Maybe it's worth your while to install those two.

        Good Luck.

          Re: Ntfs read write permission

          Also, it appears that there are no other filesystems referenced in your fstab beyond the cd drive, the three ext3 partitions, and swap. Is there another physical drive or partition having the ntfs that you mount manually?

          A list from
          Code:
          fdisk -l
          might also be useful.

            Hi all,

            Thanx for the feedback, it seems like I did not need to install anything else, or maybe I did something and now it work, cant remember that I did something out of the ordinary except removing (ntfs-config) .

            It is an external hard drive that is ntfs.

            Thanx again
