cannot login to gnome from KDE

ummm, forgot how to switch between gnome and kde.....Any help?

At log in use "session" to choose which desktop you want to use. This will then become "default" at next log in.

Well I changed from automatic log-in to manual and there is no choice for session. I tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm, changed to gnome and it still boots into KDE 4.1. tried the command again and it just went back to the cursor. Whew, should not be that hard to get back to gnome. Thought about going into adept and deselecting and removing KDE but who knows what that might produce. A black hole porbably.... >

I feel so stupid, I can't get my desktop back to gnome. Anyone have any more ideas

Sorry couldn't be of more help but I just don't need gnome and it has been years since I had both.
