Kubuntu 8.04 with kde 3.5.10 is still LST?

    Hello, i have one question.
If i upgrade my Kubuntu to the last kde 3.5.10:

    http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-3.5.10

Is it stiil LTS?. Does it keep this long time support or it lose it?
    (for example from canonical).

    Because in this instrucctions:
    http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-3.5.10

    It says in point 2:
    ...
    2. In Manage Repositories enable Unsupported updates in Updates.
    ...

    What do you think?

    Thank you

Kubuntu Hardy 8.04 is not LTS to begin with, unfortunately.

The 'unsupported updates' mentioned is the so-called backports repository, which are newer versions of the 'stock' version of apps included in the final release of. Ubuntu do not update to newerversions of apps, mostly just security fixes, etc. So to get a new version of something, the community-run backports repository is the place to go. But these are not officially supported by Ubuntu/Canonical. They are pretty well tested, however and are quite safe to use.

I am a little confused with backports. With already the questionable stability of a default release, it is advisable to use them?.
      What do you thinkk?

I would say yes, for the most part. I have not seen nor heard of any problems with anyone using backports. An individual application may have a new bug, but this does not usually effect the system as a whole as I do not think backports include anything in terms of system files.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports has a lot of info on this.

What it boils down to is what you define stability to be if you want to enable backports.

LTS is meant for enterprise customers who payed for the support. For most average users. LTS means nothing since there's absolutely NO support for free users. You can't telephone canonial to get any support.

If you talk about "stability", I am quite sure KDE 3.5.10 is better than KDE 3.5.9. I had been using both.

LTS is all about security updates, and has nothing to do with commercial support whatsoever.
