[SOLVED] KDE4.1 - Newly installed wallpaper missing

    Hi,

I just installed the latest Kubuntu this morning and added KDE4 from the repos. After logging in, I selected to install a couple of new wallpapers using the desktop settings app. These two images are showing as installed, yet I cannot find them.

    I have looked in:
    /usr/share/wallpapers
    ~/.kde/share/wallpapers
    ~/.kde4/share/wallpapers

Could anyone suggest another location please? I was going to use Strigi to find the file names, but it doesn't seem to want to load.

    Thanks,
    Jim

    Try here:
    /usr/lib/kde4/share/wallpapers
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
    4 GB Ram
    Kubuntu 18.10

Thank you. Kubuntu has come a very long way since I last installed it. Very nice!

Hmmm. All that's in this folder is another called Blue_Curl for the default blue curl image. It contains a few copies of the pic, but neither of the ones I installed.
If I log into KDE3 and dowload pics, they're placed in ~/.kde/share/wallpapers

      I'll keep looking!

        Welcome #2

        Here (Intrepid):

        Downloading Wet flower
        Real file name is 88914-mokry_kwiat_1600x1200.jpg

Hmm - where it is - using locate

        #1
        Code:
        sudo updatedb
        man updatedb
        NAME
updatedb - update a database for mlocate
        SYNOPSIS
        updatedb [OPTION]...
        DESCRIPTION
updatedb creates or updates a database used by locate(1). If the database already exists, its data is reused to avoid rereading directories that have not changed.
        #2
        Code:
        locate 88914-mokry_kwiat_1600x1200.jpg
        /home/rog/.kde/share/wallpapers/88914-mokry_kwiat_1600x1200.jpg
        man locate
        NAME
locate - find files by name
        SYNOPSIS
        locate [OPTION]... PATTERN...
        DESCRIPTION
locate reads one or more databases prepared by updatedb( 8 ) and writes file names matching at least one of the PATTERNs to standard output, one per line.

With the Intrepid Ibex the path is /home/<USER>/.kde/share/wallpapers/

Re: KDE4.1 - Newly installed wallpaper missing

Cheers for the info on locate. I've never used it before, but it's very good!

After a lot of experimenting, it seems that the two images which showed as being installed by the desktop wallpaper app, actually weren't. I tried this originally with "KDE Dragon" and "Kdragon". When they are selected to be installed, changes the button state to "uninstall", but the progress bar never moves as it does with all the other images I've tried. So, my conclusion has to be that the app is falsely reporting them installled. Phew! It looks like the app doesn't do any checking whether the pics are really downloaded.

According to locate, the images I've successfully downloaded in this way are installed to: ~/.kde4/share/wallpapers

Thanks to you both for all the help.

          Jim
