    Amarok/Kaffeine Failt o Play MP3s

    Hello

I have recently found that although alternative software (MPlayer/VLC) can play MP3s, Amarok (and Kaffeine) are unable to. The error Amarok throws at me is the following:

    Error Loading Media
No suitable demux plugin. This often means that the file format is not supported.

I have added the Mediabuntu repositories, and installed libxine1-all-plugins, but MP3 capabilities appear to be beyond Xine at the moment. However, Amarok still able to play FLAC files.

Can anyone throw any light on this matter?

    Regards

    Stewart

    Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 3.5.10
    Amarok 1.4.9.1

Have you also got libxine1 installed, as both Kaffeine and Amarok play MP3s for me but I don't have the all plugins installed.

libxine1 is installed, and from what I can tell it, all necessary packages are installed in order to get MP3 playback. Works in other players, only Xine based software seems problematic (although in tern, Xine is able to play FLAC files).

I do have a history of generating very strange errors, my housemate who knows his Linux (but uses Gnome) thought initially it was a problem with the output to the soundcard, but as FLAC files work, it seems to rule that out.

I may just wait for a Beta candidate on 8.10, and re-install. However, if anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

        Hello

Is there a simple way to install another backend engine, or is that system within 1.4.9.1 essentially pointless, unless I download the source and build it myself?

Giving up on xine, as it appears to be useless, as I have found in the past.

Further investigation pointed me towards removing the .xine directory, which I did. For reasons I cannot explain (but would like to know), this has resolved the issue.

Got to love Linux for **** like that.
