error installing KDE 4 in Adept

I am unable to install The KDE4.1 desktop in Kubuntu 8.04.1 from within KDE 3.5.10. In Adept add/remove I am receiving the following error:

There was an error commiting changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break packages.

I have tried the commands below to repair adept with no success:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install

How can I fix this problem?

Do this again:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo apt-get update

then follow the instructions here:
http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.1

Then for upgrading to kde4.1.1:
http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.1.1
