streamripper crashes on start (more info)

when i click the record button in streamtuner, a shell opens for a couple seconds then closes. too fast to see any errors. how do i configure stream tuner so that it will rip the stream?

    Edit:
    dmesg | tail gives this:

I googled some of this and only come up with cd/dvd r issues. why would streamripper error out on optical drive issues?
I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.
Working...
