    problem with libxine1-ffmepg after updating

    Hi all,

A couple of days ago I updated libxine1 and relative packages (3.1).

The problem comes with libxine1-ffmpeg, It got uninstalled and I can't install it because it depends on libxine1-bin version 1.1.11.1-1ubuntu3 and it finds version 1.1.11.1-1ubuntu3.1

Any suggestion or experience with this?

    Regards

It looks like you have encountered a bug.

Perhaps you could (re)install kubuntu-restricted-extras. Or install a mediaplayer program like Videolan in the hope that it reinstalls that package.

you can also try sudo apt-get autoremove, and then try again (which is a long shot, but if you believe in wonders...).

    Good luck!

      Thank you for your hints.

They didn't work, so I think I will wait a bit for another update until another option appears.

      Thanks anyway ^^

Re: problem with libxine1-ffmepg after updating

I just encountered the same problem. I had left my computer running for several days and had no problem with playing mp3s. I shut it down and restarted, and then I saw the error. The message I got from Synaptic when I attempted to install libxine1-ffmpeg was:

        Code:
        libxine1-ffmpeg:
Depends: libxine1-bin (=1.1.11.1-1ubuntu3) but 1.1.11.1-1ubuntu3.1 is to be installed
I hope this is fixed soon.

Just to be sure: do you have the universe security updates enabled?

You can check it in the adept manager -> repositories

If not, enable it and update your system.

            same here!

all of a sudden xine-ui was deleted after the update and trying to reinstall "package BROKEN" was prompted same for libxine-ffmpeg

            wierd...

              OMG!

Well, security universe was pointing to edgy. I have changed it to hardy and apt-getted libxine1-ffmpeg without problems.

Many thanks to mjtolsma, your tip helped me to find the problem

I've gone into adept, then Manage Repositories. I can't find anything there for choosing or modifying individual repositories. The Kubuntu Software tab only has categories such as Community-maintained Open Source software (universe).

Re: problem with libxine1-ffmepg after updating

                    try it from the console:

                    sudo vim /etc/apt/sources.list

Of course, you can substitute vim for your favorite command-line editor.

In the file, there are repositories listed. Repositories which are NOT proceded by a # are working repositories.
It is possible that the universe security is either pointing at a previous version of (k)ubuntu, or that it is not active (in that case, remove the #).
You don't need the deb-src one, only the deb http://... version.

As you can see, hardy-security is enabled -- but I still have the same problem.

Is there perhaps something I need to do to activate the changes to sources.list?

It works now, but questions remain

Apparently there are some order dependencies in sources.list, so the hardy-security repository only is effective if it's at the end of the file (or at least late enough). Once I put it at the end, I was able to install libxine1-ffmpeg.

I'm very puzzled about the relationship between sources.list and the list of third-party software displayed by adept under Manage Repositories. I would have thought the two lists would be the same, but they aren't.
