Opera won't install on 8.04

I've got an up-to-date Kubuntu 8.04 on which Opera used to run. It broke, and I removed it to re-install. But it won't re-install. I've tried Opera 9.50 and 9.51, downloading the .deb package for each. Opened them with GDebI, which started up fine and seemed to be doing something. Then GDebI disappeared without claiming success or failure, and Opera is nowhere to be found.

Does anyone else have Opera running on 8.04?

Any ideas about how to fix this, or what to try?

Gdebi seems to be buggy lately.

try:

sudo dpkg -i opera_9.51.2061.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb

In a terminal opened in the folder you downloaded opera to.

You can do this nicely in dolphin by opening up that folder and choosing view->sidebars->terminal (or something, mine is german)

You da man! Opera installs and runs just like it used to. Many thanks! If you're ever in San Francisco I owe you a beer.

Firefox is pretty decent, and Konqueror rules. But neither are in Opera's league for pure browsing. Of course, Konqueror does 85 other things. But without Opera's M2 mailer I would have been VERY unhappy.
