    Adept Updater Error

The solution to this is probably simple but escapes me. When I run the adept updater it loads for a bit, does the normal processing, then returns this:
    Code:
Could not commit changes - Adept Updater.

There was an error committing changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading some packages or the commit would break package.
Once I ok through the messages it say's "update completed" and it appears to have done so.

You may well find that the next time you run Adept, it will whinge about all sorts of things, in which case you will probably need to do a:
    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a

    sudo apt-get autoclean

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install

    sudo apt-get autoremove

        Re: Adept Updater Error

Those are the commands which always sorted Adept problems out for me, so i'm afraid i can't help.

Someone far more knowledgeable than myself will be along shortly to give you some guidance.

        Good luck.

          Re: Adept Updater Error

I first reported this error back in August. Every update that I have taken since then reports the error as described in the thread above but the updates are installed with no problem. I would welcome any suggestions as to how to track this down. As I reported above I performed the suggested commands and got the responses as indicated in my previous post to this thread. I am going to run them again to see if anything has changed but if anyone has any ideas on this I would appreciate hearing from you. It is not a show stopper and seems to only be a cosmetic annoyance.

              Re: Adept Updater Error

Sorry for the multiple posts so close to each other but i am trying to keep from having a single gigantic post. It looks sort of like there might be some problems relating to KDE 4 ? I am running both desktops but prefer KDE 3.5 on this particular machine.

Should I boot up in the KDE 4 desktop and do updates there? I am confused and as always the perpetual noobie.

                Did you try this?
                Code:
                sudo apt-get -f install
                and then:
                Code:
                sudo dpkg --configure -a

Ok, I ran those. Now I will have to wait for an update I guess to see if that fixed the problem. Thanks fr the suggestion.

                    Re: Adept Updater Error

from what your system is returning it looks like there is actually just a problem with the Alsa-base
                    try running these commands.
                    (in sudo)
                    dpkg --purge --force-depends module-init-tools
                    apt-get install module-init-tools
                    dpkg --purge --force-depends alsa-base
                    apt-get install alsa-base

if that go's ok, then try running the above commands again to make sure apt is working ok.
