SOLVED - KDE 4.1

I upgraded to 4.1 this week. While I was trying out some of the display settings my screen went black. I could see the cursor but nothing else. I had to reboot and log into KDE 3.

How can I change the settings in KDE 4.1?
Would it be possible to delete a file or folder and have the default loaded at login?

I deleted the .kde4 folder; logged out; selected KDE4 for session type when logging in; everything worked!

I am currently having the same problem, I tried to remove the mentioned folder but I have a feeling I didn't remove it and messed up somewhere along the way because my screen is still black. If you could explain to me how to remove the folder correctly I would appreciate the help.

1) ctrl+alt+F1
2) login
3) rm -fr .kde4
4) reboot ( not stritly needed, but its the easiest way to restart kde if you dont know how to do it)

If you'd prefer not to delete your whole .kde4 directory...

I had this same problem (I think). It happened when I switched on the desktop effects for KWin in the System Settings. To fix it, I had to get to a console and edit
'

vim ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc

and change

[Compositing]
Enabled=true

to false.
