[SOLVED] KDE 4.1 - Folders on USB drive with non-ascii chars not accessible

    Hi.

In KDE 4.1 (with Kubuntu 8.04), I am not able to open files/folders on my external USB drive whose names contain non-ascii chars (see attachment). Neither Dolphin, nor Konqueror or Amarok are able to handle those folders correctly (so I guess it's some kind of general mounting issue). The problem doesn't occur on the internal hard drive, just on the external one.

In KDE 3.5.9, everything works fine.

I'd really appreciate any hints. This is very annoying.

    Thanks
    Marc

I am having the same problem trying to backup some email messages with ":" in the filename... might be somehow related... please post if you solve this on your own. Thanks.

I tracked the issue down to this bug: Automounting removable storage doesn't always honour the utf8 mount option (#199165). I have yet to find the courage to mount my USB drive using the command line.

A more concise description (without any responses) can be found on the kubuntu-users mailing list: KDE4 pendrive mount options. (Run the "mount" command without attributes in a terminal to see whether your KDE3 and KDE4 setups produce the same output.) That's exactly my problem.

I hope this will be fixed soon.

Edit: Although you can't even say that it's a bug to be fair. More like a KDE3 feature that hasn't been ported yet.

          Solved in KDE 4.1.2.

            Nice to hear that!

I am using the command "convmv" to fix problem in files and folders, but it just works with write allowed devices.
