    # grub-install(8), grub-floppy(8),
    # grub-md5-crypt, /usr/share/doc/grub
    # and /usr/share/doc/grub-doc/.

    ## default num
    # Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and
    # the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used.
    #
    # You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. In this case, the default entry
    # is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'.
    # WARNING: If you are using dmraid do not use 'savedefault' or your
    # array will desync and will not let you boot your system.
    default 0
Change the above bolded entry to:
    default saved
    ## should update-grub add savedefault to the default options
    ## can be true or false
    # savedefault=false
and change the above bolded entry to:
    # savedefault=true

          Re: NO sound (SOLVED)

Well, as they say, in Linux there is (almost always) more than one way to get something done. We still have not solved the puzzle of why the latest kernel caused you to have no sound, but I still suspect it has to do with missing modules.

Glad to know that you are at least back in business and satisfied with the 'fix.'

            i'm gonna fresh install KDE 4.2,when it's released,of course

but the fifth option turned out to be a recovery mode, anyway,i'm gonna try the fourth, coz recovery mode takes time to boot

Remember, Grub counts entries beginning with zero. First menu entry is # 0.

As previously stated, we didn't solve the real problem, but ....

Happy to have been able to provide any useful assistance to a fellow Linux/Kubuntu user. Just don't get frustrated and give up when a problem (I prefer 'challenge') crops up. As long as you have a means to connect to the 'Net and can get a browser pointed to this Forum, you are going to find assistance.
