which may or may not be relevant. I looked up your audio chip on the ALSA project. Realtek is not listed, but SiS is listed:
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main
But under SiS I don't see the AC'97 chip. So, I dunno if this particular chip is supported or not. On this page:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/faqs/faqsV...PFid=6&Level=3
the fifth question down has an answer that says they have a Linux driver and you can download it. But I doubt that is necessary.
You need the alsa-base and alsa-utils packages installed. You can open Adept Manager and see whether you have them -- if not, mark them for installation and click "Apply" to install them.
If you didn't have them, then checkCode:aplay -l

Re: NO sound
Bummer. By the way, I assumed that you checked in the BIOS for that computer and made sure that the sound chip is enabled.
Also, in your System Settings>User Management, make sure your user is a member of the "audio" group.
Well, I have no special gifts for your sound system. Google found me two things that may be helpful --
http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/...&GetDown=false
That's the Realtek driver download site -- you can give it a try -- they say their Linux driver works.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=353950
Where they were troubleshooting a Packard Bell with the same AC'97 chip.
That's about all I've got to offer -- Google is a great help on these things. Good luck with it.
