    kaffeine error

I am trying to play a WMV video. I installed the w32codecs. When operating Kaffeine I get the following message (repeatedly in a loop) - error -codec package is already installed. When I press ok the same message runs ad infinitum. Any suggestions as to what to do please?
    TIA

    Re: kaffeine error

This a royal pain in the bum and happens time again. I, too, suffered from this. Open Kaffeine - settings - xine engine parameters - video - beginner options - driver

Try one of those beginning with x - in the case of my laptop I believe xshm worked, but YMMV. Try and ye will succeed.

Yes I tried a few that you suggested. Mainly the X ones but couldn't find a Y driver. Can other drivers be installed?

They are working on it. See:

                  Meanwhile, try VLC.

Yes, VLC is in the repositories, just enter:
                      Code:
                      sudo apt-get install vlc
                      at the CLI.

Is this wmv file you are trying to play online, or a local file? Can you post a link to the file if online? Did you try mplayer?

It's a local file. I can play it in a Windows environment as I have it on disl on key so the problem isn't with the file but with the player. I'll try mplayer.

MPlayer works!! Thanks to toad, detonate and rog131 who helped solve my problem. I guess that for the solution for Kaffeine we'll have to wait for the bug to be solved.
