KDE 4.1, why only one wallpaper?

I installed KDE 4.1, but the only wallpaper that seems to have been packaged is the EOS one from 4.0? Where are all the new ones at?

Which version do you have? kde4.1 beta / rc1 Hardy, Remix, Intrepid?

Depending on which version you are using open adept / synaptic (my preference) and search for wallpapers.

These are the ones I have:
kdebase-workspace-wallpapers
kdewallpapers
kdewallpapers-kde4

should adept not work for some reason do this:
Code:
sudo apt-get install kdebase-workspace-wallpapers kdewallpapers kdewallpapers-kde4
Edit: Bytw welcome to the party

thanks, ended up being kdebase-workspace-wallpapers (using the 4.0.98 packages for Hardy).

Appreciate the help!

Cool!!

I was wondering the same thing but I hadn't remember to ask. Fintan's always on top of the game here.

Now if the wallpaper for KDM and the loading screen were the same (one is bigger than the other) that would be even better. I KNOW it's picky.. but when the wallpaper changes size in the background it really takes away from the rest of the VERY polished experience of logging in.

Thankx bongho, but that is not quite true.

As for the login screen:
I don't like black so I changed my desktop background to the bluecurl.

Then I went into:
/usr/share/wallpapers/Blue_Curl/contents/images
as kdesudo

chose the one I wanted and copied that to:
/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen
renamed it back1.jpg

Now for the fun bit:
open up:
oxygen.xml and change:

<greeter id="theme">

<normal file="background.svg"/>
<pos x="0" y="0" width="100%" height="100%"/>

to:

<greeter id="theme">

<normal file="back1.jpg"/>
<pos x="0" y="0" width="100%" height="100%"/>

finally I wen to system settings/appearance/splash screen and chose none. The bluecurl one doesn't work yet

That is it.

Of course, if you know your xml (which I don't really, yet) you can use any wallpaper you want and tweak the xml file to show transparency for the login panel etc.

Now for getting that background from grub-boot to login

May someone else would like to get their teeth into that one

If you right click on the desktop and select Desktop Settings followed by New Wallpaper you will get the Plasma Workspace Add-On Installer. There is a drop down menu which defaults to unsorted, choose Most Downloads and Highest Rated and you can install many more wallpapers.

It works for me anyway, there are some great wallpapers to choose from.
