    Server sent error 23 : Could not connect to host localhost

    I am in trouble with Kontact. My installation is Kubuntu Hardy upgraded from Kubuntu Gutsy.
    I worked a lot of months without problems, then I tried some software like eGroupware, Zimbra, Apache2, MySql, etc...
    Everything seems to work fine but today I discovered that I can not save in my address book a new email address of an email received.
    When I receive a new email, I open it, then I select the address of the sender and I try to save it on my address book.
    Immediately I receive following error:

    "Server sent error 23 : Could not connect to host localhost."

    and Kontact freezes....
    What is wrong ? May be something is wrong with my installation ?

    Thank you

    Alpa

    start up the program in terminal and do the usual actions - once it gives you the error - press ok and exit and paste the output of the terminal if any.

        Re: Server sent error 23 : Could not connect to host localhost

        add the following to ur hosts file:

        Code:

        HOSTNAME="botnetgodalphamale".
        lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
        INTERFACES=(lo)
        127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost botnetgodalphamale
        127.0.0.1 localhost
        Change botnetgod.. to ur hostname

        to see ur hostname in terminal type the command hostname and press enter.

        Save the hosts file and try again with kmail.

        either that or

        now that I think about it, u may need to re-setup ur email accounts with the proper urls, etc..

          This is my actual /etc/hosts file :

          # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
          ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
          fe00::0 ip6-localnet
          ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
          ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
          ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
          ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
          127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain

          My hostname is "localhost".

          So error is on Kmail, not Kontact !
          What I must reconfigure on my Kmail to permit me to save again in my address book ?

            Re: Server sent error 23 : Could not connect to host localhost

            lol for the kmail thing in terminal - i get the same - I always thought it was because of my tweaking, etc..

            and long last

            ur hostname shouldn't be localhost unless you specifically named ur machine localhost when u first installed ubuntu gutsy, if not then something got misconfigured.

            As for ur hosts file:

            it should be and ur missing a part:

            Code:

            127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost <add here ur hostname, if need be look in /etc/hostname via open up terminal and do cat /etc/hostname>
            # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
            ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
            fe00::0 ip6-localnet
            ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
            ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
            ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
            ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
            now save. No need to reboot.

              Re: Server sent error 23 : Could not connect to host localhost

              I've a perfectly operating HH KDE 3.5.9 system using KMail and Kontact. This is what my hosts file looks like:
              127.0.0.1 localhost
              127.0.1.1 laptop

              # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
              ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
              fe00::0 ip6-localnet
              ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
              ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
              ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
              ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
              My hostname is laptop
              Windows no longer obstructs my view.
              Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.
